How to Handle Unmotivated Teens
As kids become old, they become rebellious and might not take into consideration what you tell them to do. Some parents do not know what way or method to use to change their children into the right direction. In the past years children would really anticipate to go to college but whatever happened is not known because nowadays it is not the same case because children do not like going for colleges. These teens do not see scholarship opportunities and applications as great chances for them.
Most parents have no idea on how to deal with such children so instead they leave them alone. Some bad companies and peer pressure lead young people to school refusal but if you have some tips on how to motivate them then they can change. Below are some of the tips to use so as to motivate your child to go to college.
It is very important to have a good talk with your child as a parent and ask them what they want. What is important in this talk is that it should be open and honest. Do not change their thinking instead listen to what they are interested in. Some of them might want to venture into business while others might want to take some certain period of time before getting into studies again. Other children are always afraid of the coursework in colleges while others might be insecure of the grades they had before. After having a candid talk with them you are able to know the steps to follow so as to help them achieve their goals or get into the right direction.
It is good to talk to the teachers if your kid is performing poorly in school. After approaching the teachers you are able to know the start of the failing and the teacher will help you talk to them and improve their studies. Teachers also help you to know some new ways or forms in motivating your child into performing well.
Another good thing to do is taking them for a college trip or tour. What parents do not understand is that most kids have no idea of how campus life is and so it helps so much if you take the child into a college trip and have them experience some life there. The teens might start anticipating to go to campus after the trip because they will have seen how someone has freedom and all the fun in campus and the trip you took them will be enough to motivate them. Remember to be patient with the kid because not all kids will adjust immediately to going to college. Do not hurry your child into accepting to join college just give them time.
